Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs says that he is extremely excited about the new Premier League season in which Arsenal go into the campaign with a lot of belief. The 24-year-old won his first major trophy with Arsenal after lifting the FA Cup in the summer. After adding the Community Shield a few weeks ago, there is a lot of belief that Arsenal can finally end the wait for a league title. The club last tasted success in the Premier League back in 2004 when they went through the entire season unbeaten.
Gibbs came through the ranks at Arsenal like many other players at the club. Even though the 24-year-old has not been regarded in the same breath as Ashley Cole, Gibbs has been a regular first choice in the last five years. He says that the 3-0 thumping of Manchester City in the Community Shield is a statement of intent and one should take Arsenal more seriously in this year’s title race. Arsenal have been involved in the league title races over the last few years, but they have been unable to sustain the challenge throughout the campaign.
A number of new signings including the £ 35 million buy of Alexis Sanchez provide a lot of promise. “I am incredibly excited for the new season, because we have made important signings and the boys are feeling positive after the wins in the FA Cup final and Community Shield respectively. We hope our win against Manchester City is a sign of intent. Winning two trophies lifted a weight off our shoulders, but now it is important to kick on and continue improving as a team. It was a wonderful feeling to win the FA Cup, especially after the long wait,” said Gibbs.
Arsenal take on Crystal Palace in the opening Premier League match of the season.
