Kieran Gibbs made his return to theInter Miami squad for the Major League Soccer (MLS) clash at home to Portland Timbers after a few weeks out due to a leg injury. The English left-back has battled with injuries since he signed for Inter Miami as a free agent last year after his West Brom spell.
England international Kieran Gibbs has barely featured for Inter Miami in the ongoing 2022 MLS season. Gibbs was making only his fourth appearance of the season when he suffered a leg injury in the 24th minute of the MLS clash with hosts D.C. United and had to be replaced. He had featured just three times from the previous 12 Inter Miami games in all competitions this season.
Kieran Gibbs returned to the Inter Miami squad for the visit of Portland Timbers last week Sunday after recovering from the leg injury that stopped him during the first half of the MLS encounter with D.C. United last month. Inter Miami came into the Portland game with a three-game unbeaten league run and they were looking to make it four league games without defeat. The Phil Neville-led side made it four games without defeat successfully thanks to the 2-1 win over visitors Portland Timbers.
Englishman Kieran Gibbs spent the whole Portland game on the bench on his return from the leg injury that forced him to miss the last three games in all competitions including the last two league games. Ecuadorian striker Leonardo Campana has been the preferred choice upfront for Inter Miami ahead of the more experienced/popular Gonzalo Higuain andhe repaid the faith in him from manager Neville with the 27th minute strike that gave his team a slender 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. Finnish player Robert Taylor came off the bench to score the second goal for Inter Miami. Bill Tuiloma pulled one back for Portland with twelve minutes left, but Inter Miami held on to their one-goal lead to make it two straight league wins and climb three places to seventh spot on the Eastern Conference standings. Inter Miami occupy the seventh and last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference at the moment.
