Inter Miami defender Kieran Gibbs was a member of the disappointing England u-19 team at the 2008 edition of the UEFA European u-19 Championship. Gibbs and his England teammates were eliminated in the group stage of the competition. However, they were able to qualify for the 2009 FIFA u-20 World Cup on Egyptian soil after finishing third in their group.

Kieran Gibbs joined Arsenal teammate Theo Walcott in the England u-21 squad for the 2009 UEFA European u-21 Championship hosted by Sweden. Gibbs scored a brace for the junior Lions during the friendly win over Azerbaijan as they stepped up preparations for the tournament in Sweden. His two goals propelled England to the 7-0 rout of Azerbaijan during the game played at stadium mk on June 8, 2009. England lost out 4-0 to Germany in the final of the tournament with Kieran Gibbs bagging a silver medal. He contributed to the penalty shootout win over hosts Sweden in the semi-finals after converting his spot kick.

Inter Miami left-back Gibbs opened the scoring in the win over Macedonia in a qualifying match for the 2011 UEFA u-21 European Championship on October 9, 2009. England won the game 6-3 at the expense of the Macedonians. Kieran Gibbs made the squad for the tournament proper in Denmark but he could not make it due to an ankle injury.

Gibbs had two options for senior team football as he could feature for England or Barbados. He played his first game for England under Fabio Capelloin a friendly encounter with Hungary in August 2011. He came on as an halftime substitute for Ashley Cole. After two injury-hit seasons at Arsenal, his good form at the start of the 2013/14 season earned him a recall to the England national team setup in October 2013while Roy Hodgson was the manager.
