Former Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has said winning the UEFA Europa League title is no longer an option for his former club and says it’s something they must do for their own good. Arsenal have had a mixed season this campaign both on and off the pitch, and while they have been very decent in the European competition, they have struggled woefully in the Premier League so far.

The Gunners are on a mission to continue their squad rebuild under manager Mikel Arteta and they will not be able to attract their key targets unless they can qualify for the UEFA Champions League competition ahead of next season. They are currently out of the top 4 teams in the league table right now and are also in danger of missing out on any European competition next season if they do not do the needful.

The little hope they have right now is that they are in the Europa League semi-final and they know that they must win the title if they want their place in Europe next season to be assured. And according to Gibbs, there’s no better chance of qualifying for the Champions League group stages next season other than ending the season on a high by lifting the title.

Gibbs also said that in order for them to seal the transfers they must have on their plates in the summer, it is essential that they seal qualification for Europe next season because players love the allure of playing in Europe.

The Gunners are one game away from making it to the final of this season’s Europa League as they welcome Spanish opposition Villarreal to the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night where they will play the second leg of the semi-final fixture. Arsenal lost the first fixture 2-1 away from home and know that they must put in a better performance to qualify.
